Routes Announced This Week (April 10th – April 16th)
American Airlines: Dallas/Fort Worth – Lihue
As part of the annual ramp-up of flights to Hawaii during the winter season, American Airlines will launch seasonal flights between Dallas and Lihue on Kauai Island starting December 15th, 2017, and ending January 7th, 2018 (Lihue departure). Flights will then resume again on February 15th, 2018, and end on April 2nd, 2018 (Lihue departure). Flights will be operated by Boeing 767-300ER aircraft.

American Airlines: Miami – Cartagena
Subject to Government Approval, American will begin operation between Miami and the Colombian city of Cartagena starting December 15th, 2017. Flights will operate daily, with Airbus A319 equipment.

American Airlines: Dallas/Fort Worth – Rio de Janeiro
In time for the winter travel season, American Airlines will resume service on the Dallas/Fort Worth – Rio de Janeiro route, which it ended in February 2015 amid the economic slowdown in Brazil. Flights will operate three times weekly, however they will only operate during the winter, from December 15th, 2017 (Dallas departure) to February 11th, 2018 (Rio de Janerio departure). Boeing 787-8 aircraft will operate these flights.

China Eastern Airlines: Shanghai – Malé
Overseas, China Eastern Airlines will be resuming service on the Shanghai – Malé route starting July 2nd, 2017. Flights will be operated with Airbus A330-200 aircraft. As China Eastern Airlines has embarked on a big expansion of its European and North American network in recent years, with new Chinese government policies allowing for most passport holders to transit in Shanghai for up to 144 hours (6 days) visa-free, and with China Eastern Airlines offering numerous deals every month, this could be a great option for those wanting to travel to the Maldives.

MU236 Malé 6:40pm Departure –> Shanghai 5:55am (+1) Arrival
Yakutia Airlines: Anchorage – Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky
Starting July 17th, 2017, Yakutia Airlines of Russia will begin operating weekly flights between Alaska and Russia, from Anchorage to its hub in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. This service was suspended in 2016, however will resume this year amid an uptick in tourist and researcher demand for these flights. The flight will cut the trip from the current 2-3 stops and 30 hours down to 4.5 hours. For more background on the route, read our article here.
