S7 Airlines takes delivery of its first A320neo

S7 Airlines of Russia has taken delivery of its first Airbus A320neo, which is the first of 18 on order. The aircraft will be used to expand operations as well as to replace the airline’s older Airbus A320-200 aircraft. S7 Airlines’ A320neos are equipped with two Pratt & Whitney PW1100G turbofans. The first aircraft was delivered on July 21st in Toulouse, France.

With the airline’s new A320neo fleet, the airline’s fleet will become quieter and more environmentally friendly. S7 Group Chairman Vladislav Filev said, “S7 Airlines has been continuously renewing its fleet. We are using the newest developments by the world’s leading manufacturers. The renovated family of aircraft will gradually replace all the A320s in our fleet.”

S7 Airlines plans to use the Airbus A320neo on a mix of domestic and international routes, most likely from its hubs in Moscow and Novosibirsk. The airline currently operates 45 Airbus narrowbody aircraft, consisting of Airbus A319s, A320ceos, A320neos and A321s. The airline also has 2 Boeing 767-300 and 4 Embraer E-170 aircraft, and the Boeing 767-300s will be replaced by the Airbus A321neo aircraft on order.

S7 is the largest privately-owned airline in Russia and the country’s third largest airline, after state-owned Aeroflot and Rossiya Airlines. The airline also owns Globus Airlines of Russia and Cyprus Airways, and operates to 87 destinations in 28 countries. The airline is ranked as a 3-star airline by Skytrax.
