Delhi, India-based Vistara has promised its solo female passengers an aisle or window seat assignment, as well as baggage and ground transportation assistance upon arrival under its #VistaraWomanFlyer program to ensure the safety of female travelers. The service is the airline industry’s first initiative, which the airline said was created around feedback received by the airline by its female customers.

Customers can pre-select their aisle or window seats during booking, before check-in through managing their booking online, or during web check-in. Even if seats are not selected at these times, customers are guaranteed an aisle or window seat up until the time of boarding if they request one. At arrival, uniformed Vistara employees will aid customers upon arrival in the baggage area, helping with luggage and with requesting airport-authorized taxis.

The airline not only intends to protect its passengers with its new service but to help expand their horizons and the horizons of those afraid to make the jump. Deepa Chadha, the Senior Vice President of Vistara said in a statement that, “The heights that women around the world have scaled needs no validation. Women are a major force that makes economies stronger and societies healthier.”

The service is currently available on all 600+ of its weekly flights. However, Vistara said that when it moves to expand internationally in the coming years, #VistaraWomanFlyer will come with it.

Vistara is a joint-venture between Tata Group and Singapore Airlines and started operations in 2015 out of its hub in Delhi. The airline operates fifteen Airbus A320 aircraft to nineteen different destinations within India and was the first Indian airline to introduce Premium Economy. Since its founding, the airline has flown over five million passengers.
